August 23, 2022 – Continuing to soldier through his 2022 Idemitsu Mazda MX-5 Cup rookie season, Copeland Motorsports driver Max Opalski is set to do battle at VIRginia International Raceway (VIR) this weekend. With the season beginning to wind down, Opalski will be aiming to earn his career-best results this weekend during rounds 11 and 12 of the popular program.
“I was able to get out to VIR for a regional event last weekend and it really helped me come to grips with the VIR circuit,” explained Opalski. “We learned a lot as a team, and I personally took great credit in being able to test for a weekend in advance of the event. I am hoping with the extra little knowledge that I gained, I will be able to earn my best results of the season.”
Located in Alton, Virginia, the 3.27-mile, 16-turn facility will feature the penultimate weekend in the 2022 MX-5 Cup program. A season that has featured more lows than highs for Opalski, the rookie is looking to turn it around and build momentum for a 2023 motorsports campaign.
Opalski added, “The goal for the rest of the year is to continue to gain experience, but also better results, complete full race distances, and build both track and car knowledge for the future. With 2023 just around the corner for teams and drivers, it starts this weekend for me.”
Max Opalski and Copeland Motorsports will hit the track on Friday for two practice sessions while Saturday will feature the ever-important qualifying in the morning before race one in the afternoon. Sunday morning will be the home for race two on the weekend.
