The 2020 Global Mazda MX-5 Cup presented by BFGoodrich® Tires season is poised to close in dramatic fashion with a championship-deciding doubleheader this weekend. With only two races left, Michael Carter (No. 08 Carter Racing Enterprises) leads Robert Noaker (No. 13 Robert Noaker Racing/Slipstream Performance) by just seven points and the face off will take place on a track neither have raced at before.

The close and competitive racing that has become a hallmark of Global Mazda MX-5 Cup presented by BFGoodrich Tires® competition is headed for a new sanctioning home and some of North America’s most prestigious road racing event weekends in 2021.

After missing a win by 0.0009-second in Global Mazda MX-5 Cup Race One at New Jersey Motorsports Park (NJMP), Gresham Wagner (No. 5 Spark Performance) took the Race Two win comfortably on Sunday. Michael Carter (No. 08 Carter Racing Enterprises) finished second and reclaimed the points lead as he targets the $200,000 support prize on offer from Mazda.

Global Mazda MX-5 Cup Victory for Thomas is a Record Breaker

Rookie and Mazda Road 24 to Scholarship recipient Jared Thomas (No. 96 Carter Racing Enterprises) earned his first Global Mazda MX-5 Cup presented by BFGoodrich® Tires pole on Saturday. His teammate, Michael Carter (No. 08 Carter Racing Enterprises) will line up next to him on the front row for Sunday’s Round Nine race at New Jersey Motorsports Park (NJMP).
