Looking to follow in the footsteps of several Copeland Motorsports graduates, Max Opalski is set for his assault on the 2022 Idemitsu Mazda MX-5 Cup Presented by BF Goodrich. With a schedule that will see competition at some of North America’s premier facilities, Opalski will begin his quest for race wins, podium results and the 2022 Rookie of the Year award beginning January at the Daytona International Speedway.

With one confirmed driver for the 2022 Idemitsu Mazda MX-5 Cup Presented by BF Goodrich program, Copeland Motorsports is pleased to confirm Jameson Riley of Riley Racing to their driver lineup. Bringing a wealth of driving experience in several different race programs, Riley will contest the full championship as he joins the already confirmed Max Opalski.

As a competitor in the Spec MX-5 Challenge, and current Mazda Motorsports USA Club Racing Factory driver, Alex Berg will join Hixon Motor Sports (HMS) at Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta. Making his Pro Debut in the Idemitsu Mazda MX-5 Cup presented by BFGoodrich® Tires at the Motul Petit Le Mans event in Braselton, Georgia, from November 11 – 12. Berg will pilot a Hixon Motor Sports Mazda MX-5 Cup car and will be partnering with DAE Systems, Penn Elcom, and Jevitty.

For myself and the Provision Motorsports team, 2021 has continued to be a season filled with successes and difficulties in the Idemitsu Mazda MX-5 Cup race series. Our misfortune at the St. Pete and Mid-Ohio races left us with a huge uphill battle to have any chance at the Rookie of the Year prize in this fiercely competitive race series, so we knew we had to be spot on for the rest of the year to get back in the running.

Rookie driver Luca Mars scored one of his best career Idemitsu Mazda MX-5 Cup Presented by BFGoodrich® Tires results this past weekend at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca. Taking on the 11-turn facility made famous for the legendary Corkscrew, Mars claimed a pair of top-ten results including a fourth-place effort on Sunday with a late race drive and added this top-five finish to a podium result earlier in the year at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course.
