Greeley, CO (March 3, 2020) – White Racing / Conquest Motorsports is expanding its 2020 Battery Tender® Global Mazda MX-5 Cup driver roster with the additions of Robert Stout and Matthew Dirks.
Series veteran Robert Stout joins the team after a very competitive 2019 season that saw him nearly clench the ND.2 championship in his Lucas Oil / Impact Race Products machine during the finale weekend at Laguna Seca, and he plans to build on that momentum in 2020.
“Coming into to the 2020 season with White Racing is something that's very exciting for me and also something I'm very thankful for!” said Stout. “My previous years spent racing with McCumbee McAleer Racing brought lots of success along with relationships I will have for the remainder of my career. I have nothing but good things to say about that program and cannot thank them enough for the product they always provided me!” said Stout. “I had the pleasure of meeting Bruce White and the White Racing team over the past few years. They always provided Luke Oxner with a great race car and are some of the most enjoyable people to be around in the paddock!” continued Stout.
“I’m happy to say my long-lasting partnership with Lucas Oil will continue in the Mazda Global MX-5 Cup Series under the tent of White Racing. Thank you very much to Bruce, Brandon and Monte who helped me put this together! After multiple top-three finishes in the points, it’s time to go seal the deal this season!”
Stout brings with him 12 years of racing experience, seven of those at the professional level of sports car and oval racing. Stout is also an instructor at the BMW Performance Center West in Thermal, CA. Learn more about Robert at www.RobertStoutRacing.com and on social media at @RStoutRacing.
Matthew Dirks will be making his Global MX-5 Cup debut this season. The 17-year-old has racing in his blood – his father, David, is a longtime club racer, and his mother, Michelle, has spent her time behind the wheel as well. Matthew started racing a go-kart at 10 years old, progressing on to competing in NASA Spec Miata and Teen Mazda Challenge with great success. His talents caught the attention of Mazda Motorsports, and he was twice selected as a Finalist for the Mazda Road to 24 Shootout.
"I love the Global MX5 Cup series, and I am thrilled to start my pro racing career with everyone at White Racing!” said Dirks. “To kick off 2020, I will be focusing on getting up to speed as quickly as possible with the help of my teammates, starting with the test day at Barber on March 16th."
When he’s not at the racetrack, Matthew is a full-time high school student at Roosevelt High School in Johnstown, Colorado. A gearhead through and through, he can often be found in his family’s garage, tinkering on everything from his daily driven Miata to a classic Datsun.
