Savannah, Ga. (February 10, 2020) -- Carter Racing Enterprises, Inc. (CRE) is proud to announce a new chapter in the history of their company. Since 1988, CRE has been involved in several different types of motorsports, building and preparing a variety of race cars including dirt oval, asphalt oval and road race cars. A number of these cars have won races and track championships through the years including winning the La Carrera Panamericana in 1991 with a specially built 1954 Mercury Monterey.
Team owner Mickey Carter has been involved in motorsports his entire life.
“I was lucky enough to be born into a racing family,” said Mickey Carter. “We attended drag races and then SCCA races as a family growing up. I started building my own race car at 15 years old. That first dirt track car only lasted for one season, but I built a second car and raced on dirt for several years before trying my hand at road racing. I still get to race a couple of times a year and enjoy it very much. Over all these years I have managed to be in the right place at the right time to learn different aspects of the sport from some very smart people. Now I am able to apply the experience gained from all the car builds and thousands of laps to operate a top-notch race team and put competitive cars on the track.”
In 2020, CRE will compete as a two-car race team in the Battery Tender® Mazda MX5 Cup Series Presented by BFGoodrich. Last year’s Rookie of the Year, Michael Carter, is committed to a full season with the team.
“I am excited about being able to work with my dad for the MX-5 Cup season,” said Michael Carter. “We have won a lot of races and championships together and we look to do the same in MX-5 Cup. I feel that I am working with the best in the business and that gives me a lot of confidence going into this season.”
Preparations are under way to field a two-car effort, with the driver of the second car to be announced in the coming weeks.
“We are working out of a 5000 sq ft shop,” said Mickey Carter. “CRE provides setup, maintenance, and dyno tuning for race cars. We prepare and maintain a fleet of Spec Miatas and other road race cars. Preparation for the upcoming race season includes upgrading our pit equipment and race hauler to be well organized when we get to the track.”
The Global MX-5 Cup season starts March 16th with an official test at Barber Motorsports Park near Birmingham, Alabama.
