Current Whelen Mazda MX-5 Cup presented by Michelin Championship leader Jeremy Fletcher (No. 22 McCumbee McAleer Racing) boosted his championship hopes by earning pole position at Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta. He will share the front row for Thursday’s Round 13 race with teammate Gresham Wagner (No. 5 McCumbee McAleer Racing).
Fletcher’s fast lap, a 1:34.863, is a new series qualifying record at Road Atlanta. It is Fletcher’s second pole position of the season and earns him 10 bonus points in the championship.
“With the championship so tight, 10 points is a really amazing feeling right now,” Fletcher said. “It's a little less pressure, but everyone's still there and every position is going to matter in the race. I can't thank the McCumbee McAleer guys enough. We were one, two, three again, that’s every session this weekend. I’m happy that we're all also in the championship fight. I'd rather be fighting my teammates then anyone else. I'm just really excited to get out there and go racing.”
In addition to having teammate Wagner starting alongside him, he’ll have another teammate, Nate Cicero (No. 83 McCumbee McAleer Racing) starting behind him in third. All three are in contention for the 2024 championship which comes with a $250,000 prize from Mazda.
