Georgia resident will look to improve on top-ten results from series debut weekend

April 2, 2019 - With a successful debut in the Battery Tender Global MX-5 Cup Presented by BF Goodrich Tires series at the Circuit of the Americas, 14-year-old Tyler Maxson has now shifted his focus to the second event weekend of the season. Set to take on the ultra-fast Barber Motorsports Park with his Copeland Motorsports prepped Mazda Miata MX-5, Maxson will look to improve on a pair of top-ten finishes he obtained in Texas.

"COTA went well but not to my liking," explained Maxson. "I think we showed great pace running up into the top-five on Saturday, but we did not execute. We had a few issues that held us back slightly and maybe cost us some positions, but that is racing and I will put that behind me."

As the youngest driver in the series, Maxson is a graduate of national level karting and is gaining experience with each passing lap. A learning curve that is more of a straight line pointing up, the talented youngster is taking it all in as he competes at some of the premier tracks in North America. Running alongside three talented teammates, the quartet is able to utilize on track knowledge and team experience to outpace their competitors.

Maxson continued, "I learned a lot racing with the rest of the Global MX-5 Cup regulars. These guys are very good and make you work for every position possible. Now that the first event is behind me, I better know what to expect and will be pushing hard for the top step of the podium."

In a slightly different format for this coming weekend, Tyler Maxson and Copeland Motorsports will hit the track on Thursday for a pair of Promoters Test Sessions. Friday will be the home of two additional practice runs while Saturday will be a jam-packed day with qualifying and a pair of races. Sharing the track with the NTT IndyCar Series, IMSA Porsche GT3 Series, and Lamborghini Super Trofeo program, the upcoming weekend is set to be an exciting one both on and off the track.
