BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – McCumbee McAleer Racing driver Robert Stout opened the 2017 Mazda Global MX-5 Cup series season April 21-23 at Barber Motorsports Park scoring a 6th in Round 2. Stout’s Teammate Patrick Gallagher grabbed both wins to kick off the season.

Birmingham, Ala. (22 April 2017) – Having come up just a few points shy of a Mazda championship earlier in his career, Patrick Gallagher knows that every point matters. That mindset was fully on display Saturday at Barber Motorsports Park as the Ohio native converted an ambitious last-lap pass into his second victory of the day in the No. 29 McCumbee McAleer Racing entry as the 2017 Battery Tender Global MX-5 Cup presented by BFGoodrich Tires season opened with two very competitive races.

Birmingham, Ala. (22 April 2017) - A one lap shootout to the checkered flag saw Patrick Gallagher (No. 29 McCumbee McAleer Racing) emerge with the first race win of the 2017 Battery Tender Global MX-5 Cup presented by BFGoodrich Tires season on Saturday as he crossed the Barber Motorsports Park finish line just over a half second clear of Mark Drennan (No. 5 Winding Road Racing). The duo were joined on the podium by 2016 series champion Nathanial “Sparky” Sparks (No. 8 Sick Sideway Racing) as the Global MX-5 Cup delivered another thriller at the picturesque Alabama circuit. 

Birmingham, Ala. (21 April 2017) - With the support of Mazda, the Battery Tender Global MX-5 Cup presented by BFGoodrich Tires has partnered with IMS Productions to provide live streaming of the season-opening doubleheader event at Barber Motorsports Park on Saturday, April 22nd. The Mazda-owned series is launching a new chapter in 2017 as it will be sanctioned by INDYCAR and will be a part of four Verizon IndyCar race weekend events this season.

Birmingham, Ala. (21 April 2017) - Nathanial “Sparky” Sparks took the first Battery Tender Global MX-5 Cup presented by BFGoodrich Tires pole position of the year at Barber Motorsports Park on Friday as the 2016 series champion posted a quick lap time of 01:41.4396-seconds.
