As a competitor in the Spec MX-5 Challenge, and current Mazda Motorsports USA Club Racing Factory driver, Alex Berg will join Hixon Motor Sports (HMS) at Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta. Making his Pro Debut in the Idemitsu Mazda MX-5 Cup presented by BFGoodrich® Tires at the Motul Petit Le Mans event in Braselton, Georgia, from November 11 – 12. Berg will pilot a Hixon Motor Sports Mazda MX-5 Cup car and will be partnering with DAE Systems, Penn Elcom, and Jevitty.

The Petit Le Mans at Road Atlanta is not only the finale for our series, but also for other premier IMSA series. The latest recipient of the Mazda MX-5 Cup Shootout Scholarship, Connor Zilisch, will make his series debut in the final two rounds of the Idemitsu Mazda MX-5 Cup presented by BFGoodrich® Tires at Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta.

Mazda Motorsports has announced the recipients of its three Idemitsu Mazda MX-5 Cup presented by BFGoodrich® Tires scholarships and the two members of its factory team in the Spec MX-5 Challenge Series presented by Toyo Tires. The selections come after two days of on and off-track evaluation at Sebring International Raceway.

The Idemitsu Mazda MX-5 Cup presented by BFGoodrich® Tires has consistently attracted young and upcoming talent, especially with the scholarships available from the Mazda MX-5 Cup Shootout and the prize money available to the Rookie of the Year and Champion. That demographic is only half of the MX-5 Cup field, however. The rest is made up of established professionals, who just want to go racing and have a good time on the weekend.
