Mazda Motorsports has announced the 12 racers who will vie for three scholarships worth a combined $260,000 to go toward competing in the 2022 Idemitsu Mazda MX-5 Cup presented by BFGoodrich® Tires.

Drivers from numerous racing disciplines have earned their nominations to compete for one of three scholarships to assist in running the 2022 Idemitsu MX-5 Cup presented by BFGoodrich® Tires championship.

For myself and the Provision Motorsports team, 2021 has continued to be a season filled with successes and difficulties in the Idemitsu Mazda MX-5 Cup race series. Our misfortune at the St. Pete and Mid-Ohio races left us with a huge uphill battle to have any chance at the Rookie of the Year prize in this fiercely competitive race series, so we knew we had to be spot on for the rest of the year to get back in the running.

Rookie driver Luca Mars scored one of his best career Idemitsu Mazda MX-5 Cup Presented by BFGoodrich® Tires results this past weekend at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca. Taking on the 11-turn facility made famous for the legendary Corkscrew, Mars claimed a pair of top-ten results including a fourth-place effort on Sunday with a late race drive and added this top-five finish to a podium result earlier in the year at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course.
