Showing flashes of pace and continued improvement of his racecraft, Jeremy Fletcher (No. 22 McCumbee McAleer Racing) has been on the cusp of a Whelen Mazda MX-5 Cup presented by Michelin race win all season. After one corner of Saturday’s race at VIRginia International Raceway, it looked as though he’d have to keep waiting, but a stunning comeback finally put Fletcher on the top step of the podium for the very first time. He was joined by young rookie Westin Workman (No. 13 BSI Racing) and 2021 series champion Gresham Wagner (No. 5 McCumbee McAleer Racing).

Gresham Wagner (No. 5 McCumbee McAleer Racing) earned his third Whelen Mazda MX-5 Cup presented by Michelin pole of the season on Saturday at VIRginia International Raceway. McCumbee McAleer Racing drivers swept the top three spots on the grid with Jeremy Fletcher (No. 22 McCumbee McAleer Racing) second and Nate Cicero (No. 83 McCumbee McAleer Racing) third.

The Whelen Mazda MX-5 Cup presented by Michelin is back on track for Rounds 11 and 12 at VIRginia International Raceway. After a day of practice, Nate Cicero (No. 83 McCumbee McAleer Racing) posted the quickest time of the day.

Rookie driver Nathan Nicholson is switching teams for the last four rounds of the 2024 Mazda MX-5 Cup season. The 18-year-old MX-5 Cup Shootout runner-up, National Spec MX-5 points champion, and Regional Spec Miata champion will be driving for Advanced Autosports at VIR and Road Atlanta. Having had success at the Spec MX-5 level, both the team and driver will be looking to bring that experience to the next level by creating a winning package in MX-5 Cup.
