14-year-old Georgia driver aims for top step of the podium in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin
June 19, 2019 - Fresh off a pair of victories at the Sonoma Raceway and a solid test weekend during the SCCA June Sprints, 14-year-old Tyler Maxson hungry for more this weekend. Taking on rounds five and six of the Battery Tender Global MX-5 Cup Presented by BF Goodrich, the young Georgia resident is looking to carry the momentum gained from his double victory in his Mazda MX-5 less than two weeks ago.
"Sonoma was a great confidence boost, but I am aiming to win the Global MX-5 Cup program," expressed Maxson. "The competition here is pretty stout and to be able to claim the checkered flag in one of these events would cap off a great year, and we are only half way through."
Currently sitting eighth in the overall point standings and second in the Rookie of the Year honors, Maxson has shown great speed and consistency in his first full season of car racing.
"It has been a pretty good year, and I have learned a lot," added the Copeland Motorsports driver. "I have a great group of guys behind me and solid teammates. I am proud to be representing the Mazda brand at nearly 100% of my events this season and appreciate their professionalism and support."
Competing at the 4.014-mile Road America facility, Maxson will take to the track on Thursday for two practice sessions. Tyler Maxson will enter qualifying Friday morning and race one of the weekend that afternoon. The second and final wheel-to-wheel action goes green on Saturday afternoon over the jam-packed NTT IndyCar Series event weekend.
