The Racecar:
Chassis number 033 will again be Robert’s primary car for the weekend. Robert drove this chassis at Portland last year, and it also carried him to wins in the last two events at Road America and Mid-Ohio.
The Track:
Last year’s event was Robert’s first visit to Portland International Raceway. He was caught up in a crash at the start of race 1 that caused significant damage to several cars, ending in a 21st place finish and a long night of repairs just to make the grid for race 2. An 8th place finish in race 2 salvaged some points after many teams spent the night sharing repair parts to help each other finish the weekend. This weekend will be Robert’s second trip to Portland.
Appearance:
Robert will represent the Global Mazda MX-5 Cup drivers at the Grand Prix of Portland Welcome Press Conference on Thursday August 29. He will appear along with several Indycar, Indy Lights, and Stadium Supertruck drivers from 1:30-2:30 pm Pacific Time at the Red Lion Hotel on the River in the Grand Ballroom. Robert will be available for individual interviews at the end of the event.
Robert:
“Last year I got caught up in the first lap accident. After we worked on the car for 10 hours to get it back on the track for Sunday, the 8th place finish was pretty good and I was able to run the same lap times as the leaders. I have struggled with qualifying this year, so getting extra laps on this short track will be beneficial.”
“My approach to this race can be less aggressive since I made up 33 points to the leaders at Mid-Ohio.”
“Four out of our last five races have been 2 wins and 2 second-place finishes, so I feel really good about our momentum going into the last two race weekends.”
