BSI Racing surged in the points over the weekend with a multi-podium showing at the Whelen Mazda MX-5 Cup, presented by Michelin’s return to Sebring International Raceway.

Mazda Shootout scholarship recipient, Westin Workman notched his first podium and win on Friday, while the No. 72 Lakeland Mazda, piloted by Connor Zilisch earned back-to-back second-place finishes, moving the MX-Cup veteran to third in the point standings through two events.

Workman, who narrowly edged out BSI teammate Zilisch, moved to second in the points and the leader in the Rookie standings. With Jonathan Neudorf finding himself in the top-10, eighth-place finish on Friday, and Selin Rollan’s eighth-place finish on Thursday, BSI Racing sits firmly in second place in points.

“I’m very excited and that rookie feeling has sort of subsided, but the season is still very young”, said Workman after his first career win. “To get a win early on boosts my confidence for sure. I can’t thank Mazda Motorsports enough for their support as I wouldn’t be here without them. BSI gave me a great car and we definitely plan to use this momentum going into Laguna,” said Workman.

“Honestly, it’s an amazing feeling getting a BSI 1-2 finish with my teammate, Connor Zilisch. Connor has been a close friend for a long time and to have this success under BSI feels like family as we’ve both developed under their banner.”

Also adding to the weekend earnings, Heather Hadley took home another $2,000, with her 14th place finishing in race two, after starting 26th. Hadley has now finished as the highest placing female driver in three out of four races this season.

“This was a spectacular weekend for us”, said Team Owner, Shea Holbrook.

“We felt we were really close at Daytona, so it’s awesome to notch our first win as a team here at Sebring. I’m so proud of Westin. He was just dialed in this weekend, and you could just see it in his driving. Tremendous effort by all of our drivers and a spectacular job by our crew. We kept the cars clean and we’ll carry this to Laguna in May.”

The team looks toward the West Coast trip to Laguna Seca, where Zilisch won last year in the series’ return to the historic ‘Corkscrew’. BSI Racing will enter rounds 5-6 with 1290 points in the championship, only trailing McCumbee-McAleer Racing.
