Starting from seventh on the grid at his favorite track, Selin Rollan (No. 87 Hixon Motor Sports) kept his nose clean and his brakes cool to win his first Idemitsu Mazda MX-5 Cup presented by BFGoodrich® Tires race of the season. He was followed closely across the line by his teammate, Connor Zilisch (No. 72 Hixon Motor Sports).

Jared Thomas (No. 96 JTR Motorsports Engineering), the current Idemitsu Mazda MX-5 Cup presented by BFGoodrich® Tires point leader, continued his winning ways on the streets of St. Petersburg, finishing well ahead of Gresham Wagner (No. 5 Spark Performance) and Selin Rollan (No. 87 Hixon Motor Sports).

Rounds Three and Four of the Idemitsu Mazda MX-5 Cup presented by BFGoodrich® Tires take place at the only street course on the 2022 schedule: The Grand Prix of St. Petersburg. After a rainy season opener at Daytona International Raceway, the drivers are looking forward to a warm and sunny event by the ocean.

But it was with Jared Thomas (No. 96 JTR Motorsports Engineering) taking the win in Round Two of the 2022 championship as the race ended under a full-course caution.

Teams in the Idemitsu Mazda MX-5 Cup presented by BFGoodrich® Tires had to contend with a wet Daytona International Raceway to kick off the 2022 season. In typical MX-5 Cup fashion, the 45-minute race came down to a four-wide, door-to-door sprint to the finish line. That sprint was won by Tyler Gonzalez (No. 51 Copeland Motorsports).
